Author Sayuri Ueda won the 32nd Nihon SF Taishō Award for her epic science-fiction novel Karyu no Miya (The Ocean Chronicles) on Sunday. The other nominees were the Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime, Kōji Mishima's Dynamic Figure novel, Hideaki Sena's Kibō (Hope) short story collection, and Junya Yokota's non-fiction Gendai Nihon Kisō Shōsetsu Shi Meiji-Hen (A History of Modern Japanese Fantasy Novels: Meiji Period).
